The Triumvirate is a unique take on an distortion box. First, the guitar signal is separated into three parts -- lows, mids, and highs -- using a simple second-order crossover network. Next, each part goes through its own distortion engine. Finally, each band is mixed together at the end...and you have full control over the volume & distortion of each band. In short, the Triumvirate is a compact multi-band distortion, and so it works great for a wide array of instruments -- especially bass guitar. Below is a breakdown of each control:

• LEVEL (BASS): Controls the volume of the low frequency band. Cutoff frequency: 267Hz
• DRIVE (BASS): Controls the gain/distortion of the low frequency band. Since this band typically has the strongest signal strength, mosfet transistors are used, with a clipping threshold around 2.8V. Gain range: Unity to 40dB boost
• LEVEL (MID): Controls the volume of the mid frequency band. Cutoff frequencies: 267Hz to 1.5kHz
• DRIVE (MID): Controls the gain/distortion of the mid frequency band. Since this band typically has a medium-strength signal, 3mm LEDs are used, with a clipping threshold around 2.0V. Gain range: Unity to 46dB boost
• LEVEL (TREBLE): Controls the volume of the high frequency band. Cutoff frequency: 1.5kHz
• DRIVE (TREBLE): Controls the gain/distortion of the high frequency band. Since this band typically has the lowest strength signal, 1N4002 silicon diodes are used, with a clipping threshold around 1.1V. Gain range: Unity to 46dB boost
• INTERNAL CONTROL: The sole internal trimpot controls the pre-gain of the Triumvirate. For a milder, more overdrive like clipping, turn the pre-gain down. For a harder, distortion-fuzz style clipping, turn the pre-gain up. Total range: Unity to 20dB boost
