Danish effect manufacturer T-Rex Effects, in partnership with Guitar Center’s Director of Merchandise, Barry Mitchell, announce the new co-developed Magnus boutique tone board available exclusively at Guitar Center stores, Guitar Center online and Musicians Friend online. This new pedal will be available for purchase on July 26th, 2013.

Magnus represents a completely new format for the discerning pedal enthusiast who doesn't want to sacrifice portability for flexibility, and most importantly will not settle for sterile, uninspired tone.  Magnus is a collection of five custom designed boutique effect boxes combined in a sleek, intuitive tone board.  Classic T-Rex Overdrive, Distortion, Delay, Reverb, and Boost effects are combined with a built in tuner and other features including two modes of operation: Live and Preset. In Live mode, Magnus lets you switch individual effects on and off and adjust them while you play, as if they were separate Boutique pedals. In Preset mode, you can program up to 10 preset combinations of Magnus' five effects, and then quickly call up entire sonic realms on the fly by clicking a single footswitch, without switching individual pedals on/off.

The New King of Effects Boards

The new Magnus effect board from T-Rex takes its name from King Magnus I, who ruled Denmark nearly a thousand years ago. The name means "great"—and when you plug your guitar into this board, you'll hear its greatness from the first note you play.

A Royal Family Of 5

Think of Magnus as a royal family of 5 classic T-Rex pedals—each with its own noble lineage. The Overdrive, Distortion, Delay, Reverb and Boost effects are all based on T-Rex classics used by the world's best-known guitarists. And they all deliver the legendary vintage tone and uncomplicated operation T-Rex pedals are famous for.

Live Action Or Preset Perfection

When you're onstage or in the studio, you can use your Magnus in "Live" mode, switching individual effects on and off and adjusting them while you play. But you can also switch to "Preset" mode, which lets you program up to 10 preset combinations of your different Magnus effects. That way, you can quickly call up whole sonic realms on the fly, without having to deal with individual pedals.

Tune In To Greatness

Let's be honest: Not even a T-Rex effect is going to sound great if your guitar's out of tune. That's why Magnus comes with a built-in tuner that lets you silently tune before you start playing and keep you guitar in tune throughout the gig, without having to fiddle with external tuning devices.

The built in tuner is one more reason why we believe the T-Rex Magnus will quickly be crowned king of multi-effect boards—and the one indispensable tool for your guitar setup.

Try one today, and experience a great board with noble heritage that will instantly enrich your sound.

The Pedals

The MAGNUS board contains 5 separate pedals, all turned on and off using the numbered footswitch beneath each pedal.

From left to right, they are:

  • OVERDRIVE – A creamy overdrive pedal wit h 4 controls. The OVERDRIVE knob controls the amount of overdrive, while the BLEND knob lets you mix clean tone in with your overdrive. The TONE knob lets you adjust your tone, and LEVEL controls the pedal’s overall volume.

  • DISTORTION – Heavier or “fuzzier” than OVERDRIVE, but the controls are similar. DISTORTION controls the degree of distortion, TONE lets you adjust your tone, and LEVEL controls the pedal’s overall volume. Instead of the OVERDRIVE’s BLEND knob, DISTORTION gives you a PRESENCE control that can add an British edge to your sound.

  • DELAY – A beautiful sounding “echo” effect. DELAY gives you everything from a rockabilly slap-back to a space rock freak-out. The DELAY knob controls the strength of the “echo”, while FEEDBACK determines how many repetitions you get. The TIME knob controls how fast or slow the repeats come, and TONE colours the tone of the delay.
In the right-hand section of your MAGNUS board, the TAP footswitch is also part of your DELAY effect. TAP at least 3 times to the rhythm of the song you’re playing, and your DELAY’s TIME setting will sync with the beat.

  • REVERB – For that live sound you can normally only get playing in a bigger room. The REVERB knob controls volume of the reverberations, DECAY controls how long they last, and TONE controls tone of the Reverb.

The MODE knob helps you get started by selecting a choice of 4 basic reverb settings, known as “room types”. They are:

    • SPRING: A short spring reverb with low decay settings, a long spring reverb with high decay settings.

    • ROOM: Classic room reverb for an adjustable touch of live vibe.

    • HALL: Gorgeous concert hall reverb you can adjust as you like.

    • LFO: Reverb embellished with chorus, perfect for acoustic guitar.BOOST – To give you a shot of extra volume when you need it, the adjustable BOOST pedal delivers up to 14dBs of extra volume. By adjusting the boost knob on the back of the unit, you can preset the amount of boost you’d like the pedal to deliver.

In the right-hand section of your MAGNUS board, you’ll find some additional controls. The first of these (in the top left of this section of the board) is the TAP/TUNE footswitch.

As described under DELAY, the TAP/TUNE footswitch is used to tap along to sync your delay time to the beat of the song you’re playing.

To enter TUNER MODE, hold the TAP footswitch down. In this mode, the board is muted and the tuner at the top of right of the pedal is activated. To exit tuning mode, hit any button.

Your MAGNUS board has two operating modes—Live and Preset. You can toggle between them using the LIVE/SAVE footswitch.

Live Mode

In Live Mode (red light on), you can turn your 5 effects on and off independently as if they were 5 separate pedals. Each effect has its own footswitch (1–5) and ON/OFF light.

Preset Mode

In Preset Mode (red light off), you can call up one of 10 preset combinations of effects. These are stored in 2 preset banks (5 presets in the “red” bank, and 5 presets in the “green” bank).

MAGNUS comes with 10 pre-programmed presets (see pages 8-11), but you can program your own.

Note that in Preset Mode, the numbered footswitches (1-5) no longer turn on/off individual effects. Instead, they call up the presets stored within the selected bank.

Selecting Presets

To select a preset combination of effects, hit the LIVE/SAVE footswitch to enter Preset Mode (red light off). Toggle the BANK footswitch to select a preset bank (red or green). Then hit one of the numbered footswitches (1-5) to select a preset.

Programming presets

To program a preset, hit the LIVE/SAVE footswitch to enter Preset Mode (red light off). Then toggle the BANK footswitch to select the bank (red or green) you’d like to store your first preset under.

Next, hit one of the numbered footswitches to select the Preset you wish to program. For example, hit footswitch 1 to program Preset 1. The light next to the footswitch 1 will come on, and you are ready to select and save a combination of effects as Preset 1.

Hold down the LIVE/SAVE footswitch for 2 seconds (until the light blinks). Then use footswitches 1–5 to choose the combination of effects that you wish to save as Preset 1. You can see which pedals are on by the ON/OFF light next to each pedal. To complete the save, simply hit the LIVE/SAVE footswitch again. The Preset is now saved, and you are now back in Preset Mode. Repeat the process to program all 10 presets.

Note: Only the combinations of effects can be programmed as presets. The control settings for individual effects are not saved.

Hooking your guitar and amp up to MAGNUS is easy. Just plug your guitar into the INPUT jack and your amp into the left OUTPUT jack. Use the stereo OUTPUT jacks if you want stereo output (ideal for studio, etc).
