Escape Plan Pedals Dirty Old Man - Overdrive / Distortion

Escape Plan Pedals

Better warn the neighbors!

The Dirty Old Man is a dual JFET op amp based distortion with cascading clipping stages that break up at different points, allowing for smooth, uniquely textured drive sounds throughout the sweep of the drive (Filth) control - from mild to wild! At lower Filth settings, the pedal adds just enough texture to sound like a tube amp on the verge of breaking up. The real gem in lower settings is how it makes your pickups come to life, accentuating every nuance of your playing style. As you increase the Filth control, you hear the effect of the second clipping stage kicking in. We're talking smooth drive with sustain for days. As you near max on the Filth control, the distortion is thick and aggressive, however note definition is retained, making even complex chords ring out as beautifully as they would with a clean signal.

The tone section (Sneer) captures some of the great tones of dirt boxes of yesteryear with the subtle mid-range scoop at moderate settings. The high end filter control (Scowl) allows for more mid range body at lower settings, more biting treble at higher settings. In combination with the Sneer control, the Scowl control allows you to sculpt your tone to hit the right frequency to retain body, yet cut through the mix in a full band setting. With both controls at max, you can even emulate an AM radio with all bass frequencies cut, perfect for an interesting intro or breakdown in a song (think Lo-Fi filter).

All this clipping and tone shaping can do a number on your volume, so we have an additional gain recovery stage to keep things nice and LOUD. Even at low Filth settings you'll have plenty of volume (Yell) to drive your tube amp into the sweet spot.
