Anaheim, CA (Jan. 11, 2012) – Alex Aguilar, former president and design engineer at Aguilar Amplification, is announcing Eagle Lair Audio, a brand new company whose initial focus will be on cutting edge products geared toward the guitarist.

The first product being presented is the HALO (Harmonic Amp-Like Overdrive) pedal. The goal of the HALO is to provide a high quality, no compromise effects pedal delivering harmonically rich distortion characteristics that feel, sound and react to picking nuances like the best tube amplifier designs. The result is a pedal that is sonically equivalent (and, in many cases superior) to tube saturation in the best guitar amps, while also producing tones that previously were not possible within solid state circuit topology.

  1. GAIN 1 - Sets the amount of overdrive in this channel. Turn down for less gain. With the control fully to the left, the sound is clean. Turning it to the right increases distortion and sustain.

  2. GAIN 2 - Sets the amount of overdrive for this channel. It is similar to Gain 1, but has additional gain that kicks in past 12 o’clock. Set near full for a screaming tone.

  3. TONE - Controls the high frequency boost and cut. This shapes the overall timbre of the sound. With the control turned down, the sound is darker. Turn this up for a crisp, bright sound with aggressive bite.

  4. LEVEL 1 - Controls overall volume when Gain 1 is engaged. (see gain select).

  5. LEVEL 2 - Controls overall volume when Gain 2 is engaged. (see gain select).

  6. BASS - Controls the low end. Turn up for boost at approximately 100 Hz. Gives a thick, robust sound.

  7. CONTOUR - Controls mid-range shape and imaging. Turning it down gives a “scooped” response, and turning it up gives a tighter, focused mid image.

  8. PRESENCE - Controls the higher mid-range frequencies. This is useful for dialing in the amount of clarity and imaging of the overall tone. In the full clockwise direction, the sound is clearer and seemingly closer to your listening environment.

  9. SHAPE - Control distortion characteristics.

    A brilliant sounding distortion mode that can enable the unit to provide up to 17 dB of clean boost in conjunction with the gain and level controls.  This setting also provides a very open overdrive distortion with minimum compression and harmonic complexity.

    Three position switch selects:

    • Right Position - Symmetrical clipping mode. Bright overdrive distortion with medium compression and harmonic complexity.

    • Left Position - Asymmetrical clipping mode. A bit darker overdrive distortion with increased harmonic complexity resulting in more overtones and compression.

    • Center Position - Clean boost mode.

  10. SATURATION - Post Gain control added distortion/compression.

    This feature adds an additional layer of complex distortion for more saturation. Adds smooth, long sustain.

    Three position switch selects:

    • Right Position - On in Gain 2 select only.

    • Left Position - On in both Gain 1 and Gain 2 select settings.

    • Center Position - Off.

  11. OUTPUT - 1/4” phone jack. This connects to the amplifier. The output is derived from a discrete FET/Bi-polar circuit that doesn’t alter the sound of the guitar. This output is low impedance and can drive long cable runs without loading down the guitar pickups.

  12. INPUT - 1/4” phone jack. Plug your guitar in here. This high impedance input doesn’t suck the tone out of your guitar, even in bypass. The 9 volt battery is engaged only when the guitar is plugged in.

  13. STATUS LED - (Blue) On = effect in. Off = bypass mode.  The bright BLUE LED becomes dim when the 9 volt battery wears down to 7 volts and will NOT illuminate when the battery is below the critical 7 volt level (REPLACE THE BATTERY AT THIS POINT).

  14. GAIN STATUS LED - Yellow = Gain 1. Red = Gain 2.

  15. BYPASS - Turns the effect on and off. Blue LED on = effect on.

  16. GAIN SELECT - This switch alternates between Gain 1 & Gain 2.

  17. DC POWER INPUT - 9 to 18 volt DC input. While the unit works great with a single 9 volt battery, an external supply of 18 volts increases available headroom.

  18. BATTERY COMPARTMENT - External battery holder makes battery replacement easy; just pull out with “drawer” motion.
