In the early 60's, the flanging effect was produced by slowing down the playback of a recorded track by dragging a finger against the tape-reel "flange" to delay the signal. When this altered track was played back against the original the resulting peaks and notches in the frequency spectrum produced the signature "swoosh" we now know so well. Later the effect was duplicated using analog BBD (Bucket-Brigade Delay-line) IC. However, not too much of pedals can capture the sound of those old tape reels being slowed down and speeded up.

The SFL-1 Stereo Flanger is designed to rebuild these incredible sounds. In the current market, almost all of the flanger effects' circuit design are based on the BBD IC such as SADxxxx or MN3xxx series. This kind of ICs are very noisy and have poor of frequency response. The SFL-1's circuit is an newest design with newest technology. The circuit is based on the application of DSP (Digital Signal Processor) IC. The combinations of digital and analog circuit offer the SFL-1 with low signal noise and good frequency response. The SFL-1 offers all the warmth and range of the original tape flanging effects without the need for multi-track tape machines. In addition the SFL-1 offers an interesting twist: An asymmetrical sweep pattern that adds a more "human" feel to the flanging effect. The SFL-1's sweep speed is slower going up to the peak frequency and faster coming off, giving it a slightly uneven, "whiplash" type effect unlike any other Flanger pedal.

The SFL-1 also has a 'REGENERATION' control knob that adjusts the intensity of the flanging effect. In the full anticlockwise position, rich chorus and vibrato effects can be attained by adjusting the SPEED, WIDTH and MANUAL controls. In the middle position provides a warm, full-bandwidth flange while the full clockwise position offers the radical, thick, jet-like sweeps that made this effect famous.

The SFL-1 Stereo Flanger is a professional stomp box with stereo output (OUT1 & OUT2) and six control knobs for 'WIDTH', 'SPEED', 'REGENERATION', 'MANUAL', 'OUT1 LEVEL' and 'OUT2 LEVEL'. Additionally, it can be powered with a standard 9-volt battery or with an AC adapter( any kind of adapter with DC-9V output). SFL-1 also offers a DC output jack (in the back of the case) for the purpose of supplying DC power to other Guitar Effect. A heavy duty True-Bypass metal switch mounted on the case for toggling the effect on/off and a large red LED status indicator resides on the face of the unit. If you've been searching for unique new sounds, the SFL-1 offers some new twists on an old favorite.
