AnaSounds Utopia - Tape Echo with Modulation

The Anasounds Utopia is tape echo pedal followed by a modulation with variable speed and depth.

Echoes and filtering applied make you find a sound very warm, vintage.

Calibrated for echoes from 0 to 400ms (can go up to 600ms) is primarily designed to be 90% the time for a beautiful slap-back. It will also enhance and accentuate the mix leaving, coupled with an overdrive or a distortion.

In this version we have decided to add a modulation, make a chord and transport yourself to the other side of the galaxy!

Against digital solutions / DSP very accurate, very cold and full of features, the BBD circuits that are now obsolete and sacralized circuits, we studied and collected the best of this little chip, the PT2399.

A first study, datasheet / engineering has allowed us to get a very satisfactory first release. (see Retarded in 2014)

The second was to leave out the literature, pick up a guitar, a breadboard, an oscilloscope and feel in real time the effect of each change on this circuit.

External settings

  • MIX, set between 0 and 100% the presence of echo while keeping a full analog and noiseless input signal.
  • RPT, between 1 and many repetition, no infinite mod.
  • DLY, time between each repetition.
  • MOD, switch to activate or deactivate the modulation.

Internal settings

  • TONE, to modify the tone of the repetition by filtering them!
  • RATE, to set modulation’s speed. From slow and liquid modulation to a little vibrato.
  • DEPTH, to set a more or less deep modulation.
  • MORE, to go from 400 to 600ms in the maximum rate of the delay.
