Here's FXDB's interview with Michele Fregoni of JD Stomps.
JD Stomps is a one man company founded by Michele Fregoni. JD Stomps is located in Brandico, a small town in the province of Brescia in the north of Italy.
How did JD Stomps start?
I started building effects in 2002.
JD comes from the Latin word "JovesDies" that stands for "thursday". Jovesdies is my old band name.
The logo from JD comes from the first letter (A) of my actual band (Aritmia) rotated, mirrored and overlayed. The result is a skull like face.
What sets JD Stomps apart from other builders?
I make pedals for who wants to play with them. If you don't know your sound, buy a Zoom and leave my solder in peace.
How do you start on a new pedal?
Ideas comes from everything: a bad wire connection, a sound I heard ....
How do you name your pedals?
Can you tell us something about the production process?
I build my pedals from zero all alone: copper, solder, components and enclosures. I make layout with Eagle cad and PCB with Press-n-peel. Drill enclosures, spray them and screen print them.
How important is the look of your pedals?
Look is 70% of a sound for guitarists... but not for me. I love to make good looking pedals but only for the look, not for the sound.
Is parts selection important?
I think circuit, layout designs and component values are the most important factors
Which of your pedals makes you most proud?
I'm proud of all my effects.
The Tap-a-lay: 90% SMD, lots of components and very little enclosure.
Which of your pedals is the most popular?
Who uses your pedals and for which genres?
I love to make pedals for all styles and genres.
There are some great Italian guitarists who use my pedals : Luca Colombo, Eugenio Curti, Max Satta,...
Are you working on any new products?
I work on new pedals every day... Please help me: pedals are my drugs...
